Honouring Indigenous Territories

There is no fixed end to knowledge… we all have the opportunity to grow together.

Who am i?

I’m Roy.

I have dedicated the past two decades to sparking conversations about Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) and to engaging and educating people about the history and rights of Indigenous peoples. I draw on my lived experience as a Métis/Cree person as much as I do my education and professional experience in the work I do.

I grew up in Saskatchewan and my family comes from the communities of Green Lake, Meadow Lake and Flying Dust First Nation in the Greater North. Today I work with organizations and individuals in the corporate world, the non-profit sector, academia, and Municipal governments, inspiring them towards strategic change – and helping to lead them forward with their Truth & Reconciliation (TRC) calls to action.

STORYTELLER AT HEART

Educating Others About Indigenous Culture

I see myself as an educator who shares information about Indigenous issues and connects with people through stories. I draw on the stories told to me by my Grandma, Elders and family to spark people’s interests in Indigenous issues using equal parts humour and humility.

TEACHINGS FROM GRANDMOTHER

Transformational Culture Change

I speak about Indigenous history while talking about practical steps to move forward and create transformational change – two pieces that are very much intertwined. I weave the themes of respect, courage, learning, and growth through my presentations – highlighting whatever the needs of the setting or the group require.

EXPANDING CULTURAL AWARENESS

Adopting A Diversity Lens

I try to motivate others to grow – in much the same way I was inspired to embark on my own path of learning. I believe we all have something to bring to discussions of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility, (IDEA) because our lived experience makes us who we are, and influences the way we look at the world.

Connect With Roy

Whatever audience I am speaking to – whether it’s municipal employees, corporate professionals, construction workers, University students or schoolchildren – my approach is the same: to put people at ease so together we can focus on having important (and sometimes uncomfortable) conversations about Indigenous history and rights, and the importance of moving the needle on Indigenous Inclusion and Truth & Reconciliation.
